Primary Chorister

So a couple weeks ago I got another calling...Primary Chorister. I loved this calling (for about 3 years) in my ward growing up and I'm excited to do it again.

I'll be posting what I do each week just so I don't forget what I've already done.

So the first week I did a Primary Hospital because I was called with only 2 weeks of practices! I explained to the kids that I was the resident M.D. (musical director) and I needed to check on my patients. I made a paper nurse hat and had one of the counselors wear it. I also gave her a thermometer which she could move up and down depending on how well the kids were singing. I made a "chart" for each "patient" aka song. We took the stats after singing each one and decided if it could be discharged or if it needed to go to the ICU. The kids loved it!

The next week was just practicing for the program.

Yesterday was the Primary Program and they did SO well! I was very pleased. For singing time, I told them that because I was so proud of them that we were going to make cookies! Everyone cheered! Then I pulled out the pre-measured ingredients... a good set and a bad set. ;o) I told then that we were going to play name that tune. I chose a child to come up and choose a strip of colored paper. That color represented a song which were all listed on a sheet that I gave the pianist earlier. If they guessed correctly, they got to put the correct ingredient in...if they didn't, it would be the bad one.

One kid was really upset at the thought of actually having to eat these things. It was hard keeping my cover with him.

Once all the ingredients were mixed, I told them I was off to the kitchen to bake them and that I'd be right back after sharing time. I returned with real cookies and they were so excited/relieved!

It was lots of fun.

Oh, I also used a new little spray bottle with flavored water in it as "Magic Singing Spray" if they sang well, they got a spray and they were all surprised it tasted so good!

Such a fun day.
